UI Foundation/UI Advancement Weekly Update 04.15.22

Dear Team:

So, how are you?

Have you figured out how to go to work in something other than jeans or sweats, gotten accustomed to a morning commute, remembered how to pack a lunch or manage the campus lunch options? Those are just the “easy” things. What about being around colleagues and conducting business out in public again?

Two weeks have passed since UIF staff returned to their new normal at Harker Hall and at our 507 Green Street offices, so I thought I would check in and see how everything was going. Don’t feel bad if it’s been more of an adjustment than you thought. It took more than two weeks to get used to working at home in 2020, and it will take more than two weeks to get used to being around colleagues and in your office again, even if you do have an alternative work site some days. It’s okay if you’re still feeling a bit discombobulated at times. You’ll get there.

With our work and social engagements becoming more in-person, it’s not a bad idea to continue to be mindful of the health precautions and protocols we mastered throughout the pandemic. We haven’t left COVID behind yet, and even when we do, most of the safety practices we learned are actually worth continuing. Keep washing your hands, maintain your distance, and don’t bring illness to the office. Even when you have a cold, the days of coming to work should be over. We all know how to work at home now, so stay there and do your job if you are sick. Your co-workers will thank you.

What is still pre-COVID normal is that our income taxes are due, but at least not today (the 15th), as they are in most years. In 2022, the drop-dead date is Monday, April 18. So, for any who have not finished your taxes, you have until Monday to get them filed. Procrastinators, you may have a busy couple of days. Best wishes for an exciting weekend to the rest of you and happy holidays to all who may be celebrating any of the faith-based holidays this time of year.

Cheers,

Jim
