UI Foundation/UI Advancement Weekly Update 03.11.22

Dear Team:

Over the past few weeks, it sure feels like we may be turning the corner on COVID. I certainly don’t want to say the pandemic is over because many communities around the world are still reeling from the virus and in need of medical treatment and vaccines. However, here at home public health policies and guidelines are less restrictive, and we are starting to engage more in person. As we begin to spend more time together in common spaces, be mindful that not everyone can or will be comfortable doing so. At the risk of sounding somewhat “preachy,” I want to remind everyone of some of the important lessons we have learned through our DEIB training and our culture code work. Blame and Shame are not acceptable behavior. Be respectful of your colleagues and appreciate that their positions or beliefs may not be 100 percent aligned with yours. When we migrate back to common spaces, don’t be surprised if it takes a little time to reorient yourself to your environment and colleagues. Working together and trusting each other are critical elements of a successful team.

The data suggests we are trending in the right direction. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and continue to do the things necessary to keep each other safe. Doing so will help ensure we will have even more opportunities to reengage in person during the spring and summer months.

In closing, Happy belated International Women’s Day (March 8), and don’t forget to move your clocks ahead this weekend.

Cheers,

Jim
