UI Foundation/UI Advancement Weekly Update 08.20.21

Dear Team:

With the dog days of summer coming to an end and another academic year soon beginning, we are one step closer to our “regular” work environments. And as much as we may have missed coming to campus daily since the pandemic began, there are certain things we probably will miss about not coming to campus, too. I have been back in Harker Hall full time since early July, and I still miss only having to be presentable from the waist up, snacks anytime I want them, and my dog sitting at my feet, which now have shoes on them instead of flip-flops. Of course, the trade out is that I am beginning to see more of you again.

As creatures of habit, we may have developed a few new routines over the 17 months of working remotely. So, in re-establishing our office norms, we would do well to remember that it may take time to get back into the swing of in-person interactions with colleagues instead of partners, children, and pets. We won’t be alone in our work environment anymore, so we will likely need to adjust to our colleague’s rhythms and habits again. Since the pandemic began, experts have predicted it would be harder to return to the office than it was to leave it. If you feel elevated stress level about returning to Harker Hall, 507 Green Street, or wherever you work, you may find these recommendations from a Cleveland Clinic psychologist helpful.

Before you pet owners say “see you later” to Spot, Fluffy, or other animals that may have become your co-workers, I thought it would be fun to see some of your fuzzy friends. If you are so inclined, use this link to submit a picture of your pet, and we will share them in a photo gallery on UIF Online for all to enjoy.

Here’s hoping your weekend is the cat’s meow.  Enjoy your time off.

Best,

Jim
