UI Foundation/UI Advancement Weekly Update 02.26.21

Dear Team:

Have you ever thought about how fast time seems to fly by when you are very busy? February is a short month, but it sure hasn’t been short of things to get done. For me, the month started with UI Foundation committee and Board meetings and today it wrapped up with CASE committee and Board meetings. Being busy with work can be stressful, but it can also be a great distraction from some of the less pleasant realities life throws at us. The first two months of the new year have been just that for me.

It’s hard to believe we are already two months into 2021, and when we begin work on Monday, it will be time to turn another calendar page. Yes, March is on the doorstep and that means spring is right around the corner. Coincidentally, when we officially welcome spring on Saturday, March 20, exactly one year will have passed since Governor Pritzker issued a shelter in place order in response to COVID-19. At times, it’s difficult to fathom we have been working remotely for almost a full year, especially when I think about all you have continued to get done.

Thanks for adapting to the ever-changing circumstances and for your continued hard work and dedication to helping strengthen the University of Illinois. Although daily life has changed and will likely continue to do so, the University of Illinois is still doing great things across our community, state, nation, and world. Let’s keep up the good work and when the fiscal year ends June 30, 2021 (about four short months from now), I look forward to celebrating all of you and another successful year of accomplishments.

In closing, I’d like to celebrate the winners of the cold-weather recipe contest. It’s ironic that we are making the announcement when the temperatures have finally warmed up and the snow is melting.  No matter, all the recipes looked delicious, and I’m sure they would be tasty any time. As such, I have decided to hit the easy button and declare them all winners.  Denise Dalton, Tyler Fitch, Bridget Frerichs, Arleen Krabbe, Sarah Morris, Ernie Noa, and Laura Pratt, thank you for participating in the challenge. Watch your mail for something you can use for a tasty treat you will not have to prepare. For anyone interested in whipping up one of these winning selections, all of the recipes can be viewed on UIF Online in the News and Announcements section.

Enjoy this last weekend of February and find something other than work to release your stress (like some fresh air).  Be well and stay safe!

All the best,

Jim
