UIF/UI Advancement Team Operations - COVID-19 Weekly Update 05.01.20

Dear Colleagues:

Last weekend would have been the 12th Annual Illinois Marathon. For those who were training for it, the race’s cancellation was undoubtedly a disappointment.  Despite the event’s postponement, we still saw runners out in the streets getting their miles in, and even competitors challenging others to “run for a cause” and raise dollars for each mile logged.

What we are facing with COVID-19 is in some ways like a marathon. Obviously, not the type of race any of us would have ever expected, but it is demanding and challenging, and at times it doesn’t feel like we are ever going to reach the finish line. But we can do this! We are about halfway through the extended “stay-at-home” order, and I hope you have found your stride and are balancing work and family. I remain appreciative for all you are doing for the University of Illinois. Thank you!  Also, please make sure you take time for self-care, including time for breaks and recharging as you are able.

This week, University of Illinois System President Tim Killeen announced the creation of a system-wide coordinating committee to support our universities as planning begins for the reopening of the campuses in Urbana, Chicago, and Springfield. The committee is charged with examining changes that may be required to ensure both safety and continued excellence for the System. The UIF/UI Advancement Program– COVID-19 Task Force team is doing the same and is working through plans for June and beyond.  More details will be shared in the coming weeks.

As we continue to work through these difficult times, remember we are running a marathon, not a sprint.  And, together, we will make it to the end of the race.

Enjoy the warmer weekend weather and stay safe.

Best,

Jim
